The Australian Institute of Classical Dance held its international awards in Adelaide on October 14 and 15. The competition attracted 75 competitors and was adjudicated by Marilyn Jones (OBE), David McAllister (AM) and Darryl Brandwood. At stake was a handsome award of $10,000 for the winner, $3000 for 2nd place and $2000 for 3rd place. The award was open to students from 15 to 21 years of age, who were required to present a classical solo and a variation of their own choice.

Out of 25 finalists, the winner was Matthew Maxwell, from the Annette Roselli Academy in Brisbane. Matthew has been covering himself in glory of late – having just come equal second in the Royal Academy of Dance Genee awards this year.

Second place went to Ashlee Crowe from the Australian Conservatoire of Ballet in Melbourne and third place went to Matisse Lewis from the Jane Moore Academy of Ballet, also in Melbourne. Encouragement awards went to Kayla Van den Bogert, Joshua Green (both from the Karen Ireland Dance Centre, NSW) and Emma Dowling (Jane Moore Academy).
