Co3 may be based in Perth but its artistic collaborations will see the company performing on the Gold Coast and in Sydney in 2017, as well as on its home stages at the State Theatre Centre of WA.
The company will be collaborating with Sydney Dance Company on a new work by choreographer Antony Hamilton and dramaturg Matthew Whittlet, created especially for primary school aged children. Entitled Crazy Times, the work will premiere at the Sydney Opera House in March, with a Perth and regional West Australian season to be announced early in 2017.
Co3 is also collaborating with the Farm directors Gavin Webber and Grayson Millwood on Frank Enstein, a retelling of the classic tale for children and adults. Frank Enstein will premiere at the 2017 Bleach* Festival on the Gold Coast, 31 March – 1 April, before heading back to WA for an April season at the State Theatre Centre of WA.
In September, Co3 will present The Zone, an explosive new dance work by Co3 artistic director Raewyn Hill, exploring the notion of community forming in extraordinary circumstances. Profound yet playful, the performance chronicles the creation of community. Hill will be joined again by music collaborator Eden Mulholland to play the live score, and world renowned Japanese architect Satoshi Okada will join the creative team as set designer.
During 2017, Co3 will also be working with renowned choreographer Chrissie Parrott to develop her most recent work, Elk. The company will also host its first Co:Lab artist, Tyrone Robinson.
In addition to it’s mainstage works, Co3 will continue to run its youth ensemble, which includes an elite training squad for promising young dancers. The company’s community engagement program will include a remounted tour of Paper Scissors Rocket, created by independent WA artists Unkempt Dance, in July.
