Sydney’s Performance Space is presenting Liveworks: Festival of Experimental Art from 22 October until 7 November. A new festival, and the first of its kind for Sydney, Liveworks features Australian and international artists working at the experimental edge of various art forms, including dance.

Amongst the works presented will be the world premiere of Tangi wai... the cry of water, a dance installation by Australian choreographer Victoria Hunt in collaboration with Kristina Chan. Tangi Wai explores Hunt’s tribal affiliations to Te Arawa, Rongowhaakata, Kahungunu Maori, English and Irish backgrounds. Hunt will also be presenting a choreographic workshop as part of the festival.

Vicki van Hout will present her latest work, Les Festivites Lubrifier (The Lubricated Festivities), an existential romp through a middle-aged woman’s mind. It tells the humorous story of how she lost her way in Paris during a residency, and the adventures that ensued.

Liveworks also includes a free performance program. Included in this program is Dancing With Drones, by Josephine Starrs and Leon Cmielewski with Alison Plevey. As the name suggests, this work explores Plevey’s reactions to a persistenty intrusive drone. Choreographer Ghenoa Gela will present a work as part of this program, entitled Mura Buai (Everyone, Everyone). Gela will lead seven dancers in a performance installation that invites the audience to engage with improvised movement vocabulary in a choreographed yet playful environment.
