Two independent Australian dance acts, one by Brisbane’s Elements Collective and the other by South Australian Dan Daw, have been chosen as recipients of the Adelaide Fringe Artists Fund. Nine acts have been selected in total and will share in $40 000 to help cover some of the costs of presenting a show at the 2017 Adelaide Fringe Festival.
Elements Collective will be presenting M.I.N.D.E.D at the 2017 Adelaide Fringe, a hip-hop dance theatre work, featuring breakdance and contemporary theatrics. The work is directed by multinational champion B-girl Leah Tinley. She will perform as well, alongside Ben Garcia, Travers Ross and Brad Harrison. M.I.N.D.E.D features music by Ben Ely of Regurgitator, who will compose and original soundtrack.
Dan Daw’s work On One Condition explores queerness and disability, blurring the edges between dance and theatre. On One Condition questions the idea of “normal” and offers an intimate whirlwind journey through home, belonging, comfort, need and struggle.
