Applications have just opened for the Royal Ballet School’s annual summer programme, which has been extended from two weeks to four. Students will apply to attend for up to two weeks each, so the extra time will enable more students to attend the programme. In 2016 only 344 students were accepted out of more than 1700 applicants. The 2017 programme will offer almost double the number of places.
The Royal Ballet School’s (RBS) summer programme is in its 30th year and gives talented students the opportunity to experience working under the RBS’s faculty and guest teachers. Artistic director Christopher Powney says, ‘The Royal Ballet School Summer Programme is a fantastic opportunity for gifted ballet dancers from around the world to come to our School and be immersed in our internationally respected system of training. This year, we are pleased to extend this chance to train with our experienced faculty in world-class facilities to more students than ever. By increasing the length of the programme and raising the age of eligibility, we hope more talented dancers can benefit from world-class training with the Royal Ballet School.
In addition, director of the Royal Ballet Kevin O’Hare and I are delighted to introduce a new two week summer school in our Covent Garden studios, focusing on Royal Ballet repertoire and taught by their illustrious current and former artists."
The Royal Ballet School’s Summer Programme will take place Monday 10 July – Saturday 5 August 2017. Applications close Friday 20 January 2017.
