The Royal Ballet is heading to Brisbane’s Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) in 2017, with Australian premieres of The Winter’s Tale and Woolf Works. It’s the first time the works will be performed outside the company’s home in London’s Covent Garden. The performances are taking place as part of the QPAC International Series, which most recently saw Ballet Preljocacj’s Snow White performed in Brisbane.
The Winter’s Tale is choreographed by the Royal Ballet’s artistic associate Christopher Wheeldon. It’s the first fill length adapation of a Shakespeare play since Kenneth MacMillan’s 1965 production of Romeo and Juliet and is Wheeldon’s eighth work choreographed for the company.
Inspired by Virginia Woolf’s landmark novels, Mrs Dalloway, Orlando and The Waves, as well as her autobiographical writings, Wayne McGregor’s Woolf Works, won the 2016 Olivier Award for best new dance production. The work is set to a new score by acclaimed German-born British composer Max Richter.
The Royal Ballet's Brisbane season takes place 29 June - 9 July 2017. For more info, including bookings, head to www.qpac.com.au
