Brisbane audiences will be given a rare opportunity to see Australian and European-styled contemporary dance side-by-side in a shared program entitled “Scripsi Scritpum” at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts from 23-30 March 2012.
“Scripsi Scriptum” is a program of two contemporary dance works by Expressions Dance Company and Switzerland’s Cathy Sharp Dance Ensemble.? The show comes to Brisbane from a successful opening season at The Roxy Theatre in Basel, Switzerland, where both companies enjoyed standing ovations every night.
“Scripsi Scriptum" was inspired by old-fashioned letter writing and modern social networking between dancers from both companies.??“The cultural exchange between dancers made the creative process very organic and came to focus on how communication has changed over time, its impact on human nature and the ways we connect – or fail to connect – with each other,” Weir says.??“The poetic nature of letter writing provided inspiration for the choreography and was an exciting way for our dancers to share ideas with another company across the globe before meeting face-to-face.??The two pieces are physically and visually contrasting, but there are refined subtleties that link them, taking you on a journey of the evolving art of communication.”??
“Scripsi Scriptum" is on at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts from 23-30 March 2012.
