Looking for a dance school or training program that is attached to a professional dance company?
In the February/March '17 edition of Dance Australia (out soon!), Emma Sandall addresses the question of whether local or international training is better for an aspiring dancer in her "Ask Emma" column. As Emma discusses, there is no simple answer to this question - there are a number of variables that will decide whether a student is best suited to training in Australia or overseas. In her discussion, Emma points out that many European and American schools are attached to companies, "giving students the chance to observe exactly what the job entails on a daily basis." As she points out, there are a number of Australian and New Zealand companies with schools or training programs attached, including:
- The Australian Ballet (the Australian Ballet School)
- Australian Dance Theatre (ADT Youth Ensemble)
- Co3 (Co3: Elite Training Squad)
- Melbourne City Ballet (Full time elite program and finishing year)
- Royal New Zealand Ballet (New Zealand School of Dance)
- Queensland Ballet (Queensland Ballet Academy, Pre-Professional program, Jette Parker Young Artist program)
- Sydney Dance Company (SDC Pre Professional Year)
- Victorian State Ballet (Pre professional/finishing year program)
If you know of a school or training program attached to a professional company that is not listed here, please email nina@danceaustralia.com.au so we can add it to our list!
