A glimpse into the future
When "New Breed" leaps onto the stage next week, it will present a glimpse into the next wave of dance choreography, with four rising dance makers premiering new works. The program will be presented and performed by members of Sydney Dance Company.
"New Breed" was established by SDC in 2014, and is designed to encourage raw talent and cutting-edge ideas. So far it has showcased 42 new works, with many of the creators going on to become professional choreographers.
This year’s line-up comprises
Amber McCartney, an award-winning dancer and recipient of the John Truscott Artists Award, Chloe Munro Fellowship and a Green Room Award;
Dean Elliott, an acclaimed New Zealand-born dancer currently with SDC who will make his choreographic debut;
Piran Scott, also with SDC, who has worked with the likes of Alexander Ekman and was recognised as Dancer of the Year 2022 by tanz magazine Europe;
Siobhan McKenna, an ATLAS scholarship recipient and multi award winner for previous choreographic work, including Melbourne Fringe Festival’s Best Dance Award in 2017.
“I . . . can’t wait to witness the fresh perspectives they will bring to the stage," says SDC Artistic Director Rafael Bonachela.
"New Breed" takes place at Carriageworks from December 4 to 14.
