An Australian in Milwaukee
Australian choreographer and dancer Cass Mortimer Eipper has been selected as a finalist in Milwaukee Ballet’s 2019 Genesis: International Choreographic Competition.
A former member of Sydney Dance Company and West Australian Ballet, Mortimer Eipper joins fellow finalists Aleix Maine (Spain) and Kenneth Tindall (Scotland) in Milwaukee this January. Each finalist will have three weeks to create a new work on dancers from Milwaukee Ballet, which will then be presented to a panel of judges and an audience, February 14-17. This season’s judges are international arts journalist Carla Escoda, Hubbard Street Dance Artistic Director Glenn Edgerton and Nashville Ballet Artistic Director & CEO Paul Vasterling.
The winner of Genesis, as determined by the judging panel, will receive a commission to create another original work for Milwaukee Ballet in a future season.
The audience will also cast a vote for the Audience Choice Award, with the winner receiving a cash prize.
Mortimer Eipper follows in the footsteps of former Australian winners of the Genesis competition, John Utans (2002) and Timothy O’Donnell (2009). O’Donnell later returned to the company and is currently its resident choreographer.
