Farah Shah believes passionately that boys should be given as much opportunity to dance as they have to play sport. So she decided to launch the first Bollywood Boys classes in Australia at her Mango Dance Studios.
"The Bollywood classes get a lot of interest because Bollywood is so vibrant, cheesy, fun and full of energy,” she says. “The boys are loving it and I can’t wait to see them up on stage at our Mango annual show in July”.
Farah Shah launched Mango Dance Studio as Australia’s first Bollywood Dance School. It has been seen on Sydney Getaway, Sydney Weekender, Mondo Thingo, Asian Focus and even Australian Idol.
Since then Shah has choreographed TV commercials for Sony India and Uncle Ben Curry Pastes. “I loved the fact that India outsourced to Australia this time,” she says.
Shah was also approached to choreograph a Bollywood Spectacular for Wyclef Jean at the Australian MTV Awards as well as Channel 10’s Logie Award winning show So You Think You Can dance.
“The Bollywood dance form has struck a chord in the Australian psyche,” says Shah. “I guess it reflects in part the growing globalisation of Bollywood as well as the growing desire to find fun ways of keeping of fit.”
Mango Dance Studio holds Bollywood classes in Neutral Bay, Parramatta, Surry Hills, North Sydney, Cherrybrook and Albury/Wodonga.
