Ballet Theatre of Queensland (BTQ) is delighted to announce that Clare Morehen has joined the company as rehearsal director and assistant choreographer, starting May 27.

Her appointment follows the recent resignation of Elizabeth Whelan, who has held the position for the past six years, and is leaving to start a family.

Clare retired from the Queensland Ballet in March 2017 after a stellar 13 years with the company, most of them as Principal Artist.

Clare is now in demand as an independent artist, performing internationally with M&T in Motion and the Convent Garden Dance Company in London and across Europe. She performed as a guest artist at BTQ's 80th Anniversary Gala in July, 2017. Clare is also very much in demand as a specialist coach for dance academies in Queensland, including the Queensland Ballet Academy.

Having been a guest coach at Ballet Theatre over the past few years, Clare now relishes the opportunity to be a permanent fixture of the creative team.

“I have witnessed the powerful outcomes this company provides,” she declares, “and am absolutely thrilled to be joining the BTQ family. They have a rich history of providing incredible training and performance opportunities to young upcoming dancers, in a professional atmosphere and environment.

"Throughout my performance career I have had a passion for storytelling in the classical art form and I hope to pass on that enthusiasm and love to the dancers of BTQ.“

Artistic Director Timothy Brown is delighted to have Clare join Ballet Theatre as it prepares for its January season of The Sleeping Beauty.

“Clare’s wealth of experience will be an invaluable addition to the studio as we rehearse this icon of the classical ballet repertoire. We are thrilled she is joining us and look forward to a long and exciting association.”
