Co:3 Australia’s 2020 launch saw WA’s flagship contemporary dance company announce a new two-year approach to programming. The first year will be focused on partnership presentations, the second on staging new works by Co:3’s artistic director, Raewyn Hill.

And so 2020’s program sees Co:3 partnering with a range of Australian companies. First up, this February, Co:3 will perform in Circa’s Leviathan at Perth Festival, which will bring together 36 performers from Circa, Circus Maxima and Co:3 to reveal the tension between the individual and the group.

In June, Co:3 will join forces with West Australian Ballet to remount Garry Stewart’s Reincarnation, as part of WAB’s new contemporary season “STATE”. Originally performed by the two companies as part of WAB’s 2019 Ballet at the Quarry season, the work explores the notion of death and transformation from classical ballet narratives such as Giselle and Swan Lake.

July will see the company collaborate on another Stewart work, this time with his company, Australian Dance Theatre, to present the West Australian premiere of his work Objekt. The name references the work’s exploration of the objectification of humans.

Finally, in October, Co:3 will collaborate with West Australian Opera to present The Nightingale, an opera performed by young people for both young and not-so-young people.
