Cojocaru to guest in 'Manon'
The QB has announced that not only will it present MacMillan’s epic tragedy, Manon, in September, but that it has enticed one of the world's most sought after ballerinas to perform the leading role. Romanian-born, London-based ballerina, Alina Cojocaru, will perform for two nights in the two-week season (Sep 28 - October 8), bringing all her experience and finesse to the stage.
Her interpretation of the complex character was described as "a revelation" by London's Evening Standard . . . "nuanced, fresh and brimming with emotion. Every moment is loaded with meaning, with even the smallest glance carrying straight to the back of the auditorium."
Another famous dancer to make a guest appearance in the ballet will the Queensland Ballet's very own Artistic Director, Li Cunxin. Together with his wife, Cunxin will take part in select performances as the lecherous Monsieur GM who sells poor Manon into sexual slavery.
“This year I celebrate a decade of directorship with Queensland Ballet. There is no better way to celebrate such a milestone than on-stage alongside my wife and Queensland Ballet Mistress, Mary Li,” he says.
“It is an honour to be performing one of Kenneth MacMillan’s blockbuster masterpieces,” he adds.
