It’s not often that film festivals open with a dance movie, but this year lovers of dance films will be pleased to know that the Sydney South African Film Festival is doing just that.
This year’s Sydney South African Film Festival (SSAFF) will open with Beyond Moving, a documentary about dancer Siphe November, whose talent was discovered when he was boy living in the townships. A Billy Elliot story with a South African twist, the film follows Siphe as he trains with Canada’s National Ballet School and ultimately secures a premier position in the world of professional ballet.
All films in the SSAFF will be screened online.
