Victoria will see a lot more than usual of the classical dance company, Projection Dance, thanks to a state-wide tour supported by Regional Arts Victoria.
Projection is directed by Tim Podesta, a former Australian Ballet dancer and international freelancer, and is based in Wodonga, on the Vic/NSW border. It has a cohort of dancers contracted on a project basis - Zoe Cavedon), India Stewart, Peter John Simmonds, Matilda Ballantyne and Kristy Denovan - and a number of overseas dancers who are appointed as guests, such as Argentinian Marlon Dino and Chillean Sebastian Vinet.
Following a performance of Equilibrium on January 16, a program choreographed by Podesta and former Wayne McGregor dancers James Pett and Travis Clausen-Knight, the company will bring Closer, a full-length work choreographed by Podesta, to Southbank Theatre in Melbourne on Feb 8, The Cube in Wodonga on Feb 22 and the Concourse in Sydney on Feb 29.
Later in the year, from June 9-19, Projection will tour an International Divertissement Ballet Gala to the Otway Performing Arts and Culture Centre in Colac (June 10), Horsham Town Hall (June 12), Swan Hill Town Hall (June 13), Burrinja (Dandenong Ranges Community Cultural Centre (June 16), The Wedge, Sale (June 18) and Wyndham Cultural Centre on June 19).
The company is also performing in Upstream, the Albury Wodonga outdoor arts festival (March 6-9), is involved with the new forthcoming International Brisbane Ballet Gala (March 19-22) and is developing its own online Ballet Masterclass Series.
