Exploring ecstatic performance, Supersense: Festival of the Ecstatic includes several dance works in its 2019 program, which takes place August 23-25 at Arts Centre Melbourne.
Former dancer of Merce Cunningham Dance Company Kimberly Bartosik will perform her solo I hunger for you for the first time in Australia. The work emanates from Bartosik’s experiences of charismatic spirituality, delving deeply into the heart of losing oneself in ecstasy, ritual and desire.
Together with fellow former Cunningham dancer Dylan Crossman, Bartosik will also present "Cunningham Centennial Solos: Melbourne". This program of solos by Merce Cunningham was spearheaded by London’s Barbican, New York’s BAM and CAP UCLA to commemorate the work of the great choreographer in what would have been his 100th year.
Indonesian-born, Tokyo-based dancer Rianto (Akram Khan Company) will present Medium, a work exploring Lengger, a cross-gender dance from Banyumas in Central Java.
