The Sydney Opera House has announced that Israel’s world-renowned L-E-V Dance Company will be paying a visit this summer.
The company will make its Sydney Opera House debut with "Love Cycle" – OCD Love and its companion piece Love Chapter 2 – a pair of shows that are complementary but also standalone.
“L-E-V’s Artistic Director Sharon Eyal is a choreographic tour de force, recognised the world over for her visceral and seductive movement language,” says Sydney Opera House Head of Contemporary Performance Olivia Ansell. “Love Cycle is a ritualistic experience in two parts – sharing the obsessive-compulsive feelings of love or lust and the aftermath that follows it. Following presentations of Teaċ Daṁsa’s Swan Lake (Loch na hEala), Michael Clark Company’s to a simple, rock ‘n’ roll . . . song and Horses in the Sky from Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company, this powerful and visually arresting double bill continues our commitment to presenting the best modern dance work from across the globe.”
OCD Love was first performed in Australia at the Adelaide Festival in 2017. It explores the tribulations of a relationship complicated by obsessive-compulsive disorder, taking inspiration from slam poet Neil Hilborn’s “OCD”. Love Chapter 2 will make its Australian premiere at the Sydney Opera House, pushing that turmoil to extremes to examine the breakdown of love.
When: Thursday 31 January - Sunday 3 February, 2019, Drama Theatre, Sydney Opera House.
