Melbourne City Ballet is seeking a ballet mistress/master to join its team in 2017, based in Coburg, Victoria (Melbourne).
The ideal candidate will be a confident team player with a strong understanding of the current arts landscape nationally and internationally. This person should have a strong desire to share their life experiences to assist to develop the next generation of performing artist in Australia.
Duties associated with this role include (but not limited too):
- Advanced classical ballet knowledge
- Assist Artistic Director during rehearsals with professional company Managing staff and teams unsupervised
- Set classical ballets from the company’s repertoire
- Oversee staff’s execution of pastoral care within the organisation
- Oversee staff’s execution of educational course delivery within the organisation
- Teaching and executing the specific technical method of the company
- Ability to effectively delegate tasks
- Ability to audition, assess and interview students/parents
- Training staff and students in classical ballet and contemporary movement
- Uphold the artistic vision and organisational values
Applicants require the following:
- A minimum of 10 years professional performance experience in a company setting own personal developed network within Australia.
- Experience teaching at an elite and professional level
- Choreographic skills desired but not essential.
- The ability to attend morning class and rehearsals before completing a trial period if successful.
- The ability to tour (if necessary) for short periods of time throughout the year.
- The ability to make decisions autonomously whilst upholding organisation key values and artistic direction.
This role will report directly to the artistic director and company manager. Applications are currently being accepted with interviews to be scheduled to take place late November and early December.
