New book on Graeme Murphy
Dance writer and historian Michelle Potter has published a new book, Glimpses of Graeme, Reflections on the work of Graeme Murphy.
A prolific choreographer, Murphy is an Australian icon. He was artistic director of Sydney Dance Company for 31 years from 1976 during which time he brought the company to the acclaimed status it holds today. Michelle Potter's articles about his career as a dancer, choreographer and director have previously been published in newspapers, theatre programs, popular magazines, journals and books. The reviews and stories are assembled here according to themes that can be seen in Murphy's work across several decades, giving readers glimpses into an extraordinary dance career.
Potter's previous publications include Kristian Fredrikson. Designer (2020), Dame Maggie Scott: A Life in Dance (2014), Meryl Tankard: An Original Voice (2012), A Collector's Book of Australian Dance (2002), and A Passion for Dance (1997).
Glimpses of Graeme will be launched at the Hobart Bookshop, Tasmania, on November 18 at which MADE (Mature Artists Dance Experience) will perform excerpts from works created for them by Murphy.
Glimpses of Graeme is available in a limited number of copies and available at the FortySouth online store.
