October/November OUT NOW!
The curtain has risen on our October/November issue!
The Australian Ballet's brand new production of the epic ballet Spartacus will soon make the leap from Arts Centre Melbourne to the Sydney Opera House. Nina Levy has interviewed its creator, Lucas Jervies, on what lies behind his version of the ballet. This insightful article comes with some gorgeous rehearsal photos.
Also epic is the visit by the famous La Scala Ballet from Milan to Australia in November. Karen van Ulzen asks the charismatic artistic director, Frederic Olivieri, what the company has in store. We have some gorgeous photos of that company as well!
Our regular correspondent Emma Sandall gives advice on how to avoid favouritism in the class room, our regular nutritionist Fiona Sutherland reminds female dancers about minding their periods, and guest writer Jake Burden writes to those who are the only boys in class. Musical theatre correspondent Sally Clark talks to Shubshri Kandiah about realising her childhood ambition when she was cast as Jasmine in Aladdin.
Continuing our series on great collaborators, this issue features husband and wife team Caitlin and Gabe Comerford, who are deeply and passionately committed to youth dance.
We also have coverage and photos of the Genee International Ballet Competition and the Sydney Eisteddfod Ballet Scholarship and Dance Group Finals. We have a photo gallery featuring the best of the entries in our Instagram competition. And as usual in the October/November issue, we have our highly anticipated Summer School Giveaway, which you can enter to win a week at one of our participating dance schools.
