Qld Ballet presents 'Bespoke'
The Queensland Ballet is inviting audiences to venture into the unknown for its annual season of "Bespoke" - the sixth iteration of this popular season.
Three new contemporary ballets will be premiered: one each by Australian choreographers Natalie Weir, Paul Boyd and Remi Wörtmeyer.
Drawing inspiration from poems and Richard Strauss’s music, Resident Choreographer Natalie Weir's new work delves into the universal thread that binds us all. Four Songs will bring to life the notion of shared humanity and the beauty found in the fleeting moments of existence.
Award-winning choreographer Remi Wörtmeyer is a visual artist who works between fine art, theatre, and fashion. His Miroirs will explore the idea of seeing our world, our narcissism, and relationships in reflection.
Breaking from the non-narrative theme, Paul Boyd’s new work will tell the story of an elderly Scottish gentleman who relives his past with the return of the ghost of his youth. Inspired by the sound of bagpipes, Tartan combines the technique of traditional Scottish Highland dancing with contemporary dance.
“Bespoke is always a sell-out each year," says Artistic Director Li Cunxin. "It challenges our dancers and audiences alike as it breaks through traditional barriers to reveal new perspectives on movement and storytelling. 'Bespoke' is a powerful merging of classical technique with an emotional depth that reveals thought-provoking concepts to enthral audiences. I am continually blown away by what I see on stage . . . the exceptional performance level of our dancers combined with exciting creative elements to deliver a stunning show.".
'Bespoke' runs from July 27– August 5 at the Talbot Theatre, Thomas Dixon Centre. For more information, go here.
