After some disappointing pandemic postponements, Scimm. Dance Company finally premiered its program, "Paracosm", to a packed theatre on July 7 at Transit Dance in Melbourne.
Scimm. is an independent Melbourne-based company directed by Scott Polkorny and Tim Barnes and described as "classical based contemporary with modern themes and a commercial edge".
The troupe of 16 hardworking dancers presented a triple bill, comprising Altered Trajectory, by the always accomplished Sarah Boulter, and two works by the directors: Once Again, which opened the program, and the title work, Paracosm, which formed the entire second half of the program. Paracosm means "a detailed imaginary world" and this intense work creates a sense of unreality with hallucinogenic video imagery projected onto the back wall as well as a soundscape created from samples of sound recordings collected by the dancers from around the city.
'Paracosm' moves to the NIDA Playhouse, July 14-15, and then The Wedge, Sale, on July 24.
