SDC makes welcome return
Sydney Dance Company is making a welcome return to life in November, beginning with a lovely collaboration created for screen.
The work is Years, “a meditation on the layers of legacy that shape both our past and our future”, choreographed by Artistic Director Rafael Bonachela and featuring solos from SDC’s ensemble.
Years is set to Bach’s Goldberg Variations, a version reimagined by esteemed Australian musician Stephen Emmerson’s reimagining for two pianos. The dancework is an on-line creation, produced in lockdown and filmed in SDC’s new Neilson Studio Theatre. It will be free to watch on SDC's website on November 4-6 (register online here) but it will also be available to view globally, presented in partnership with South East Dance in the UK as part of the UK/AU 2021-22 Season. Emmerson will play alongside renowned pianist Sonya Lifschitz.
Next, the company returns to the stage will be the company's annual season, “New Breed”, of new works by company dancers, from 25 November – 11 December at Carriageworks in Redfern.
The company's Wharf studios reoponed to the public on Monday of this week, though to limited numbers. Public classes have been augmented with a new form of livestreamed classes. For more info, go here.
