"The work is a huge credit to the underlying approach to contemporary dance that we have come to expect from Bonachela in his leadership of Sydney Dance Company."

This is how critic Michelle Potter responded to the Sydney season of momenta, Rafael Bonachela's major new work for 2024, which is now touring Australia. Melbourne audiences will be the next to see this highly lauded work when it opens at Arts Centre Melbourne on October 8, after which it proceeds to Brisbane (October 17-19) and Wyong, NSW (November 9).

momenta combines Bonachela's signature choreographic style with the electronic soundscapes of Nick Wales (drawing on Peterisk Vasks), design of Elizabeth Gadsby and lighting by Damien Cooper and is described as capturing "the essence of fleeting moments suspended between past and future, where individual trajectories collide and intertwine".

Says Bonachela: "momenta is a testament to the ephemeral yet profound connections that weave through all over our lives. From the most tender exchanges to an intense physical storm, the dancers traverse the beauty and complexity of the human experience. It's a deeply personal exploration, as we invite audiences to join us on a journey that speaks to the very essence of what it is means to be alive, where pure movement becomes a language of connection and expression.”
