Sydney Dance Company Launches Innovative Teacher Training Program.

Comments Comments

Sydney Dance Company has announced the establishment of its inaugural Teacher Training program, scheduled to commence in July 2025. This initiative represents a significant development in the company's educational portfolio, expanding upon its existing programs such as the Pre-Professional Year and professional intensives.

The program is designed to cater to both aspiring and experienced dance educators, offering a part-time curriculum delivered over 12 to 18 months. It features a blended learning approach, combining weekly theory lectures and tutorials, available both face-to-face and virtually, with four immersive, week-long practical intensives.

The program's core objectives include equipping participants with expertise in developing movement practices, fostering safe and inclusive learning environments, and translating professional  dance knowledge into dynamic teaching experiences. It emphasises an integrated approach, addressing both the physiological and psychological aspects of movement instruction.

"With access to the latest insights from an industry-leading performing arts and education organisation and their association with research driven universities, you’ll remain contemporary in both thought and action and well prepared to inspire the next generation of dancers and teachers," stated Linda Gamblin, Head of Training, highlighting the program's commitment to current industry standards and pedagogical practices.

Rafael Bonachela, Artistic Director, added, "We’re thrilled to launch this new program, which we see as a vital next step in supporting the dance community. By learning and training together, we hope to foster a new standard for dance education—one that embraces teaching as an art form in its own right."

Upon successful completion, participants will be awarded the nationally recognised CUA40320 Certificate IV in Dance Teaching and Management. As a Registered Training Organisation (RTO #45863), Sydney Dance Company is positioned to deliver this qualification.

The program will be conducted at Sydney Dance Company’s facilities at the Walsh Bay Arts Precinct, providing participants with access to professional-grade resources. The program's integrated approach aims to empower teachers to create both physically and emotionally safe learning environments.

The launch of this program reflects Sydney Dance Company's commitment to contributing to the development of dance education in Australia. Further information is available on the Sydney Dance Company website.
