DANCE teachers and educators are being urged to take part in the National Dance Qualifications Project – an Australia-wide review of teaching qualifications.
The project is being handled by Verve, a Victorian Government Industry Training and Advisory Body responsible for cultural and recreation industries, on behalf of Industry and Business Skills Australia. The new qualifications will apply to Registered Training Organisations at the Vocational Education and Training (VET) level.
Meetings have already been held with various stakeholders in each state, and a National Project Reference Group (with representatives from industry, training providers and state training agencies) established to govern the project and maintain quality and transparency in the consultation process. The future qualifications will address the need for performance, choreography, teaching and management skills and other priority areas that have been put forward by the dance profession.
A discussion paper was released in December, with feedback invited till the end of February. As the outcome will affect both private and public schools, it is in all teachers’ interests to be involved. Verve will be using an online forum to encourage conversation about the proposed options.
