The pointe of it all
Ross Philip, former Sydney Dance Company luminary and presently member of the performing group Australian Dance Artists, never really hung up his shoes. Well, to clarify - he never lost his connection with dancers' shoes, particularly retired pointe shoes.
Philip, or "Rosco", has carved himself a second career as a visual artist and sculptor, with worn shoes as his hallmark - both as his scupltural material and for their symbolic potential for beauty, passion, movement and decay. His work has earned him the title of 2018 Wallarobba Outstanding Local Artist.
He is holding an exhibition, called Dancer's Landscape, at the Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre in Hornsby, Sydney, from Tuesday November 19 to Sunday November 24. Opening night Friday, November 22 at 6.30pm.
