Link Dance Company, the graduate company of the WA Academy of Performing Arts, is about to present The History Project. This site-specific dance performance at the Liberty Spaces on Barrack St in Perth will take audiences on a journey, venturing through the depths of the past.

Link Dance Company acts as a pre-professional dance company, providing Honours level student dancers training with renowned Australian and international choreographers.

For this program WAAPA has welcomed back 2007 dance graduate Patricia Woods to choreograph along with the Artistic Director of LINK Dance Company, Michael Whaites.

NSW-based Woods is a critically acclaimed dancer, choreographer and teacher based with over 17 years of experience. She has been a teaching artist at Sydney Dance Company since 2016, and a lecturer in contemporary dance and choreography. Over her career, she has developed a number of short works including Sonar So Far (2023), Transmission Solo (2019) and 11 Steps (2012).

Whaites brings over 35 years of teaching and dance experience to his role as Artistic Director of LINK. After moving from Australia to New York in 1991, Michael spent four years as a company member of the acclaimed Twyla Tharp and Dancers, and Irene Hultman Dance. From 1995-2000 he became a company member of the world-renowned Tanztheatre Wuppertal – Pina Bausch. Over his career, Michael has collaborated with numerous companies and institutions worldwide creating different works as a dancer, teacher and choreographer.

For many of the dancers, this will be their final showcase before embarking on their professional careers.

The program runs from September 19 to 21. More info here.
