Since 1997 Tracks Dance Company in Darwin has produced an annual, original and full-length dance work. Through these performances the company has built a professional reputation for producing out-door, large-scale, larger casts, and generally site specific works. Contemporary in nature, the  shows are expressions of local culture, and a junction point where professional artists, passionate amateurs and community dancers meet.

This year’s production is called In Your Blood, in which the company looks across generations, cultures and sporting codes to ask: what exactly is in your blood? And how did it get there?

The choreographers range from Australian artists of Sri Lankan, Balinese and Northern Territory descent. Boasting a large cast, the show is a rare junction point where professional artists, passionate amateurs and community dancers meet and create something extraordinary.

Hometown favourite and ARIA nominated James Mangohig’s original composition sets the pulse. Performing live each night James samples rhythms from across continents and time to forge a massive soundtrack for the dancers.

Taking over the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens Holtze Lawn, Tracks transforms the space in to an open-air tropical theatre and seamlessly transports the audience to another world.

In Your Blood is conceived and directed by Tracks's artistic directors Tim Newth and David McMicken with cultural advisers Putu Desak Wati Stretton and Chandrika Munasinghe. The choreography is by Putu Desak Wati Stretton, Chandrika Munasinghe, Kelly Beneforti, David McMicken, Venaska Cheliah, Bryn Wackett and Madeleine Brown.

The show runs from August 12 to 19. For more info go here.
