Apply for Australian Ballet residency program
The Australian Ballet has today announced a pilot studio Residency Program will be held at the Primrose Potter Australian Ballet Centre from November 7 – to December 17, 2022.
The Residency Program has been designed to provide much needed access to studio space for established independent artists, allowing them to further develop and enrich their practice. To be held while the company is on tour at the Sydney Opera House, the Residency Program will include access to a 161 square metre studio space, which has a sprung floor, ballet barres, mirrors, sound system and piano.
In a further boost to those who apply for the Residency Program the successful applicant will receive a stipend of $18,000 to support them during the residency.
Artistic Director David Hallberg said: “The dance sector has been through considerable difficulty over the past few years. Even pre-COVID, studio space to experiment and create in can be hard to come by and is a real hurdle for many artists when creating new work."
The Residency Program is open to artists who are Australian citizens or Permanent Residents, who have a minimum of 15 years’ experience and have a dance, choreographic or body-based practice. Applicants will be selected by a panel made up of Hallberg, internationally renowned choreographer Pam Tanowitz and BlakDance Executive Producer Merindah Donnelly.
The Residency Program will be adaptable within the available dates and supports any stage of a dance project or work’s development from initial research through to creative development.
Applications are now open and close on Friday August 19. Go here.
