WAAPA’s musical theatre students will be performing the much-loved Broadway musical comedy 42nd Street at Subiaco’s Regal Theatre this June.

Set in Depression-era New York, 42nd Street spins the classic showbiz tale of a young hopeful hoping to join the cast of her first Broadway show. When fading star Dorothy Brock breaks her leg onstage, director Julian Marsh plucks young Peggy Sawyer out of the ensemble and makes her a star.

This production of 42nd Street is directed by Sydney’s Jason Langley (Dusty – the Musical, Loving Repeating). With plenty of experience working with WAAPA’s students and alumni, Langley is relishing working with WAAPA’s latest crop of triple threats. “42nd Street is a challenging show with many difficulties to negotiate for an actor but the young cast have risen to these challenges with a spectacular determination,” he remarks.

Langley is working alongside choreographer Lisa O’Dea, renowned for her work on musicals such as Mary Poppins, We Will Rock You, Billy Elliot, Mamma Mia and Cats.

The show will be accompanied by an 18-piece orchestra made up of WAAPA musicians, led by the head of musical theatre, David King.

42nd Street plays the Regal Theatre, 17-24 June. Book online at ticketek.
