Every six minutes someone in Australia is diagnosed with dementia. It’s good to know, then, that one way to slow the onset of dementia and improve the symptoms is through exercise and movement.

And so on 30 March 2016, crowds will gather on the steps of the Sydney Opera House to participate in the 2016 Uniting Big Move dance against dementia… to raise awareness of the important of staying active as we get older.

Now in its third year, the Uniting Big Move will make a Guinness World Records official attempt for the largest Macarena dance. The number to beat is 2219 participants, currently held by Eggbuckland Community College in Plymouth, set 7 July 2011.

Hosts Jono Coleman and Alana Patience will lead the charge, teaching the crowd the Macarena dance moves, in preparation to take on the record, showcasing the importance of movement in tackling dementia.

As well as at the Sydney Opera House, events will be held in venues across NSW. Participation is free of charge.
