Hungarian-born contemporary dancer, Fanni Varga, has been awarded a scholarship from the Tanja Liedtke Foundation enabling her to travel to Adelaide and work with Australian Dance Theatre on internship, under the mentorship of Artistic Director Garry Stewart. The Tanja Liedtke Foundation was established in 2008 to honour the late dancer and choreographer Tanja Liedtke. The Foundation’s purpose is to preserve the artistic legacy of Tanja Liedtke, support the development of contemporary dance theatre and foster Australian/European artistic connections.
Varga met former Australian Dance Theatre dancer and colleague of Liedtke, Paul White, during her Bachelor of Dance studies at Frankfurt’s Academy of Music and Performing Arts (HfMDK). White came to the school as a guest teacher, sparking Varga’s interest in exploring the Australian contemporary dance scene. Discussions between Varga, ADT’s Artistic Director, Garry Stewart, and the Tanja Liedtke Foundation followed, and Varga was invited on internship with the company and awarded the scholarship.
Dancers interested in Australian Dance Theatre internships can find out more by emailing adt@adt.org.au. Information about the Tanja Liedtke Foundation can be found on their website, tanja-liedtke-foundation.org.
Life in Movement, a film about Tanja Liedtke, will be screened on ABC 1, Sunday 16 December at 10.10pm. Watch the trailer here.
