Melbourne City Ballet’s (MCB) 2017 program is entitled “In Motion”, an appropriate name for a company that is focusing on building audiences in regional/remote areas. 2017 will also see the company embark on its first international tour.
“In Motion” will kick off with Don Quixote, the story of young lovers Kitri and Basilio. The company will then whip off its pointe shoes for ECHO, its annual contemporary and neoclassical season featuring new works by local choreographers. MCB will then head to Japan where it will present 2016’s production of Madame Butterfly. Following the tour will be a children’s tour of Once Upon a Time, a new ballet following Red Riding Hood’s adventures through the magic kingdom.
The second half of the year will see the MCB embark on a national tour of Michael Pappalardo’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, taking in venues in Queensland, New South Wales, Northern Territory and Victoria. Next on the agenda is The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, based on the famous children’s story. Finally, MCB will present the Christmas classic, The Nutcracker.
