Brisbane’s Expressions Dance Company is holding a new summer school holiday dance program for young people aged 12-14 and 15-16 years.
SummerDance, running from 16-18 and 18-20 January 2012, is a fun, short, 3-day dance program during the summer holidays.
Participants can expect to learn three different styles of dance each day, including contemporary dance, jazz, hip-hop, ballet, break dance and more.
Classes are designed for participants who do not necessarily have a lot of dance experience, but who are eager to try something new, or looking for a fun way to spend a part of their summer holidays.
Classes are taught by Expressions Dance Company’s professional dancers, all of who are very experienced in teaching classes to young people, plus special guest artists teaching their special style.
EDC dancer Riannon McLean says, “I teach a lot of workshops in schools and have also taught in all of EDC’s Brisbane Contemporary Dance Intensives. I’m really looking forward to SummerDance – I think it will be a challenge and also a lot of fun for the participants. We plan to teach them lots of different dance styles and make the classes really exciting.”
Elise May, who has been dancing with EDC since 2008, is also inspired by her chance to teach in SummerDance. “I love working with other people. Working collaboratively is an important part of being a dance-maker, so to be able to share our experiences and inspire young people about dancing is really fulfilling.”
