"You're soaking in it!" Robina Beard memoir
Few in the dance world would not know of Robina Beard. Over her long career she has been involved in most aspects of Australian theatre, and particularly dance.
Through her life her enthusiasm for all things theatrical has never waned, nor has her commitment to dance – in the past she has been National President of Cecchetti Ballet Australia and President of Ausdance NSW. She has a Medal of the Order of Australia "For service to the arts, particularly through dance", as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Australian Dance Awards, of which she was Chair and a founding organiser.
For those who don’t know her, mention a certain Madge from the Palmolive Dishwashing Liquid ad from 1968 and her face will immediately spring to mind.
Beard has now released a memoir of her wide and entertaining life. Called My Life: You’re Soaking In It, after her famous line from the ad, the book documents Robina’s remarkable life in show business: from her time as a dancer, to a television comedy actress (and weather girl) and on to become a theatre choreographer, director, teacher, organiser and generally an arts “mover and shaker”.
The book promises to take you on an adventure through Beard's rich and unfinished life. "Her love of family, her zest for life and her dedication to the arts makes for a truly inspiring personal account from one of Australia’s most popular and talented performers."
