Earlier this year Bangarra Dance Theatre, in partnership with the Arts Unit, held a series of two-day workshops across Sydney and regional NSW to identify talented Aboriginal students for inclusion in the NSW Public Schools Aboriginal Dance Company.

This group will perform alongside the larger Aboriginal Dance Ensemble at the Schools Spectacular on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 September, at the Sydney Entertainment Centre.  The Aboriginal Dance Ensemble includes 300 students from grades 1 to 12.  The students have had the opportunity to work with choreographers Sidney Saltner and Sonny Townsend.

The Schools Spectacular was originally designed to showcase the talents of New South Wales’s public school students.  It is now a massive cultural event, incorporating students from diverse backgrounds and communities throughout NSW.  The Schools Spectacular line-up for the 2012 includes a 1300-voice choir, 180 musicians, 2,000 dancers aged from 5 to 18, plus rock, jazz, brass and marching bands with featured soloists aged 7 to 18 years.
