Sublime....
“Surrealism is destructive, but it destroys only what it considers to be shackles limiting our vision,” – S.Dali. Natalie Allen takes a dive into the surreal world of Dali with… Sublime....
Internationally renowned dancer and choreographer Natalie Allen returns home to Western Australia this summer for Sublime…. – her first show at Perth’s Fringe World Festival. Set to an electrifying soundtrack by upcoming composer Dane Yates and performed by Natalie and fellow Perth dancers Linton Aberle, Scott Elstermann, Bernadette Lewis and Tyrone Robinson, Sublime…. is a homegrown Fringe World performance not to be missed.
Delving into a surreal world that is beautiful yet dangerous and terrifying, Sublime…. will explore the creatures that inhabit it – sexual, primal beings that we otherwise know as humans. Natalie, who drew inspiration from the works and theories of Salvador Dali and Sigmund Freud, says: “The title comes from the theory of sublimating ourselves from society, but also that euphoric sensation of feeling sublime.”
“I find the juxtaposition of beauty and horror co-existing in the same moment very interesting,” Natalie says. “For example, mountains look beautiful from afar, but when you are walking on a cliff’s edge those mountains, although still beautiful, are also dangerous.” “There will be moments of beauty, horror, laughter and heaviness. I want to create a dance that is visceral, in which the audience can experience or have a shared feeling with the dancers.” Will you come on this wild, Sublime…. journey that lingers between reality and the unconscious?
