Dance Australia is thrilled to announce the launch of the inaugural Emerging Female Classical Choreographer initiative, presented in partnership with major sponsors The Australian Ballet and Sydney Opera House and supporting sponsors Bloch, DanceSurance, Harlequin and the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.

As you may remember, back in June 2017 we published "Where are the women?", an investigation by Karen van Ulzen into why the number of female classical choreographers is relatively small. It's a topic that remains close to our hearts and so we're delighted to announce this brand new initiative.

Aimed at emerging female classical choreographers, the purpose of this important initiative is to encourage and foster professional skills development for emerging female choreographers creating work in the classical and modern ballet genres.

The successful candidate will receive a research and development residency at the Sydney Opera House and a commission to create a work for The Australian Ballet's Bodytorque season
.

If you are an aspiring female classical choreographer and would like to see your work presented by The Australian Ballet, head to the Emerging Classical Choreographer page to find out more information and how to enter.

 Entries close: February 28, 2019.
