The Prix de Lausanne, will honour Li Cunxin AO with the Lifetime Achievement Award during its 2025 competition. The ceremony will take place during the Finals on Saturday, 8 February 2025, and will be live-streamed globally.

Li Cunxin’s life story is nothing short of extraordinary—a testament to overcoming adversity through determination, discipline, and an enduring passion for the arts. Born into extreme poverty in Mao's China, Li was selected at the age of 11 to train at the Beijing Dance Academy. Undergoing years of rigorous training, he emerged as one of the finest dancers of his generation.

His career took him to the international stage, performing as a Principal Dancer with the Houston Ballet and The Australian Ballet. Later, Li made a successful transition into finance, becoming a senior manager at one of Australia's largest stockbroking firms. However, his love of dance brought him back to the artform when he assumed the role of Artistic Director of Queensland Ballet. Li transformed the company from a regional ballet company into a globally recognised institution, celebrated for its artistry and innovative programming.

Li's accolades are many, including worldwide acclaim for his autobiography, Mao’s Last Dancer, which became an international bestseller and inspired a blockbuster film.

Reflecting on this latest recognition, Li shared his thoughts in an exclusive statement for Dance Australia:
"I'm deeply moved and humbled by the Prix de Lausanne Lifetime Achievement Award. This is truly a privilege and honour. This award is not just a reflection of my efforts and achievements, but of the incredible support and inspiration I have received from the special people around me. I dedicate this award to all who have believed in me, encouraged and nurtured me, and shared this journey together, which resulted in a positive contribution to arts and society."

Li Cunxin’s remarkable journey is an inspiration to dancers worldwide, embodying resilience and the transformative power of art.  Dance Australia extends sincere congratulations to Li on this well-deserved recognition.

Don’t miss the opportunity to witness this milestone moment during the Prix de Lausanne Finals on 8 February 2025.
