Contemporary dance lovers in Brisbane are in for a treat this May, when the city hosts SOLO Festival of Dance, a new solo dance festival presented by Expressions Dance Company.

The festival features an exciting line-up of solo dancers, including David Mavisa (Shaun Parker and Company), Jill Ogai (The Australian Ballet), Kimball Wong (Australian Dance Theatre), Alice Hinde (Dancenorth), James Pham (Chunky Move), Sarah Aiken (Lucy Guerin Inc.), Michelle Ryan (independent) and Brian Lucas (independent) alongside EDC's Elise May, Jack Ziesing, Daryl Brandwood, Benjamin Chapman and Michelle Barnett.

The line-up of choreographers is similarly impressive, with Antony Hamilton, Daniel Jaber and Natalie Weir creating solos for EDC dancers, and guest dancers' solos being choreographed by Raewyn Hill (Dancenorth), Garry Stewart (Australian Dance Theatre), Tim Harbour (The Australian Ballet) and Anouk van Dijk (Chunky Move).  EDC dancer Elise May will perform choreography by Narelle Benjamin as well as herself choreographing a new work for fellow EDC dancer Benjamin Chapman.

EDC director Natalie Weir hopes that SOLO Festival Dance will become a regular, annual event for Brisbane.  "We are thrilled to be welcoming some of Australia's leading dancers and choreographers to Brisbane,” she remarks. “This exciting program offers audiences a rare opportunity to see outstanding Australian artists perform back-to-back. EDC is working towards making SOLO Festival of Dance a permanent fixture on the Brisbane dance calendar.

SOLO Festival of Dance will be presented cabaret style at Cremorne Theatre, QPAC, from 15-24 May 2014.
