The 53rd edition of the Prix de Lausanne, the world’s most prestigious ballet competition for young dancers, is now in full swing at the Beaulieu Theatre and Congress Centre in Lausanne, Switzerland.

This year’s event, running from February 3 to 9, brings together 85 exceptional candidates from 23 countries, including eight talented Australians who are proudly representing their nation on the global stage.

Among the Australian contingent is Xavier Xué, who shared his excitement about the experience with us: “It has been an incredible week so far! I'm feeling grateful for the opportunity to train alongside such talented dancers and work with inspiring coaches. Pushing myself every day and soaking in every moment!” Xavier’s enthusiasm reflects the spirit of the competition, which not only challenges young dancers but also fosters growth, camaraderie, and artistic excellence.

Throughout the week, candidates work closely with renowned international coaches and teachers to refine their classical and contemporary variations. These sessions culminate in the Selections on Friday, where dancers present their work to the esteemed jury, chaired by Laurent Hilaire, Director of the Bayerisches Staatsballett.

The Finals, set for Saturday, February 8, will determine the nine Laureates who will receive scholarships and career-launching opportunities.

The competition week concludes with the Rising Stars event on Sunday, February 9. This special showcase will feature performances by the Finalists and Prize Winners, alongside guest stars Margarita Fernandes and Antònio Casalinho, who will dazzle audiences with iconic pas de deux from Romeo and Juliet and Le Corsaire. The event also includes the premiere of an original work by choreographer Jessica Lang, created in collaboration with 26 dancers from the competition’s partner schools.
