The room within a room
Choreographer Melissa Lanham and architect Samantha Taylor have collaborated to bring an exclusive premiere to The Events Centre, Caloundra, this August. Both artists are based on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland: Lanham is the founding director of LP Projects Dance Theatre Company and Taylor is the architect for Project Fort Awesome.
Called Poetical Inhabitants, the show is an exciting collision of dance and architecture, in which an eerily beautiful and serenely volatile skeleton of a house is placed inside the theatre and, within, dancers reveal the story of a couple, their relationship, and the echoes of the houses’ past identities.
This immersive visual-theatre piece begins the moment the theatre doors are opened to reveal a cavernous space, with the bones of a house. Audiences can walk around and explore the installation before taking their seats to watch the lives of the inhabitants unfold.
This innovative dance-theatre work invites audiences to consider what makes a house a home. Is it the people living there? Or the echoes of those who have lived there before?.
Poetical Inhabitants will premiere at The Events Centre in Caloundra on August 24. Go here for more info.
